Governor news: Peter Estlin presented with Shrieval Chain of Office

20th September 2016

Alderman and Sheriff–Elect Peter Estlin received the support of all three living Treasurers of Bridewell Royal Hospital when he was presented with his Shrieval Chain of Office and Badge at Ironmonger’s Hall in the City of London this afternoon.  Peter, who stepped down in the summer after 10 years as Treasurer and Chair of Governors, to concentrate on his future duties as Sheriff of the City of London, is succeeded by the first female Treasurer, Mrs Justine Voisin. Mrs Voisin pictured to Peter’s right, was formerly Vice Chair of Governors and Barrow Hills School Chair of Governors before the merger with King Edward’s.  Also in this historic picture are (far left) Mr Richard Abbott, Treasurer 1995-2006, and The Rt Hon The Earl of Selborne, Treasurer 1972-83. The presentation of the Shrieval Chain of Office and Badge is one step in an ancient ritual to inaugurate the new Sheriffs of the City each year.  The formal procedure continues on September 28, Michaelmas Eve, when Peter will formally take up the Office of Sheriff.
