Year 7 Abstract Expressionist investigation

12th February 2016

Year 7 are investigating the American abstract expressionists while exploring different ways of using brush marks and expression in paint.
The children used large brushes inspired by small swatches from a magazine image, followed by adding one element from an abstract artist of their choice. Some of the artists Year 7 have looked at are Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell, Arshile Gorky, Willem de Kooning, Sam Francis, and Franz Kline.

The wonderful black and white photography is by Scott – a photographic view of his expressionist painting listening to music pieces Star Wars and Swan Lake.
