Dear Parents,
Thanks again to the BHCC volunteers for the fireworks last Friday. It was a really special event and we were blessed with a starry sky to boot.
With the kind help of our community, we also look forward to the BHCC Christmas Workshops today and also a wreath making event this evening from 7.30 – 9.30pm. Our Head of Art, Mrs Waller, will be on hand to add some structure and flair to the making. With all this, you will be way ahead of the pace for Christmas! With celebration, I hope our families observing Diwali enjoyed the festival. Likewise, I know a few of our people will gather to celebrate Thanksgiving next week.
It was great to see our new visiting artist in residence, Naomi Warren, at work with our children. Initially, Naomi will be working with staff and our Years 3, 4 and 6 to bring some of her printing and collage expertise into Barrow Hills. A great opportunity to stretch our horizons in terms of representation and experimentation. The start point of ‘fruit’ also fits nicely in with healthy eating. It was very encouraging to see Naomi challenge our children to take some risks and be prepared to embrace mistakes and learn from them. A powerful take away.
Finally, a nod to all our Barrow Hills’ children for being real troopers through what feels like many solid weeks of rain, wind and now a bit of chill. They have been entirely undeterred at play, in training and in playing fixtures with gusto… such as the U11 Girls’ football Surrey Cup Semi and the Seaford U8 and U9 rugby this week. Good luck to our U13 girls playing in the IAPS National Final, as I write.
Have a great weekend.
