Head

Dear Parents,

Thank you for the big turnout at last week’s fireworks event! My gratitude goes to the BHCC volunteers and staff who made it possible, ensuring everyone had a great time while raising funds for the school. We are currently exploring an exciting project as our next fundraising target and look forward to sharing the details with you in the New Year.

Monday’s Remembrance Service offered a more reflective moment. The service included a strong performance by the Choir and well presented readings from Emilia and Kiera. You may have also noticed the beautiful poppies created by the children in art lessons, now adorning the shrubbery as you drive in – what a lovely and considerate tribute.

There is still plenty to look forward to, including a production of ‘Lord of the Flies’, a nativity play, and a Christmas concert. Please check the School Calendar for more details about these upcoming events.

A special mention goes to Clemmie, Emily, and Eleanor for their winning entries in Miss Anna’s ballet writing competition. I must also commend Year 4 as a whole for their outstanding rainforest research homework and consistent efforts with cursive handwriting . The level of detail and presentation was truly impressive.

We finished the week reflecting on kindness and with a tribute to the National Anti-Bullying Week with staff and pupils in odd socks.

Mr John Towers

Head of Upper Prep

Dear Parents,

It has been such a joy to see some sunny weather this week and the Year 7 and Year 8 children have tackled all activities with enthusiasm and energy, both inside and outside the classroom.

The Upper Prep teachers have enjoyed meeting with children and parents this week at our Parent Consultation Evenings and sharing some targets and feedback. It was great to see so many children and to speak to them directly about their progress and next steps.

On Tuesday, Year 7 and Year 8 enjoyed a ‘mini movie’ session complete with sweets and popcorn as a reward for meeting their ‘Track my Read’ target. Thank you Mrs Dudley for organising this lovely treat. Everyone enjoyed watching the first episode of the Percy Jackson series – and a few children have even been inspired to read this book. Keep reading everyone – at your request, Mrs Dudley has set a new target… I know you can do it!

Some dates for your diary over the next few weeks include:

Tuesday 19th November: Upper Prep trip to the Natural History Museum

Thursday 21st November: BHCC Christmas decoration workshop

Friday 22nd November: Year 8 mock French speaking exam

Tuesday 26th November: Autumn Concert at 3.30pm

And of course, Thursday 5th December, ‘Lord of the Flies’.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Mrs Mason

Head of Prep

Dear Parents,

It’s been a busy but incredibly productive week here at school, filled with important events, thoughtful reflections, and plenty of activity across all year groups.

We began the week with a very poignant Remembrance Service on Monday. The choir sang beautifully and the children approached this solemn occasion with great maturity and respect.

On Tuesday, some of our children represented the school in the Surrey Hockey Cup. Mrs Burnett shared with me upon their return just how proud she was of all the children who participated. Well done to all involved!

Wednesday was World Kindness Day, and the children spent time with their form teachers discussing the importance of kindness and how small acts can make a big difference. This tied in beautifully with Anti-Bullying Week, where we’ve been focusing on fostering kindness and inclusion within the school. This culminated in a burst of colour and fun for Odd Socks Day on Friday, as the children celebrated individuality and the importance of respecting each other’s differences.

Good luck to our cross-country runners competing today. I am looking forward to hearing how well you all did.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Miss Tyrrell

Head of Pre-Prep

Dear Parents,

The atmosphere at the beginning of the week was one of gratitude and respect as Pre-Prep gathered in the garden to reflect on the soldiers who have bravely fought for their country. Children from each class laid a remembrance cross at the foot of the large fir tree at the bottom of the Pre-Prep garden, and then all of the children from Kindy to Year 2 held a minute’s silence. Each year, it always strikes me how the sombreness and poignance of this moment is encapsulated by even our youngest pupils.

Reception have made their first visit over to the science labs to meet our Head of Science, Mr Behan. They had an exhilarating morning exploring light boxes and were able to really impress Mr Behan with some of their questions, as well as answers.

On Tuesday, Year 2 spent the day at Brooklands Museum as part of their ‘Wings and Wheels’ topic. The children had a number of workshops in which they made their own racing car, explored buses through the years from a horse and cart, to a modern day electric bus, and boarded concorde too! Year 2 impressed the accompanying staff, as well as the volunteers, with their knowledge of some of the aircraft, the questions they asked and they represented the school beautifully.

Congratulations to a number of Pre-Prep children who achieved their Bronze Awards for their house point collection so far this year. Teddy, Sophie, Kit, Holly and Rocco from Year 1, and James, Sophie, Ottilie, Ben and Ethan from Year 2 all received their award at assembly this morning. Well done to our Work of the Week recipients this week; Valo (Rec), Arthur (1G) and Hannah (2G)who have been showing incredible effort in their English work including phonics and writing about historic events and exploring rhyming couplets. We presented not one but two Special Commendations this morning for excellent work in Year 1. Minty and Alexander each wrote a detailed account of the tragic event of the Titanic’s sinking in their English writing after exploring the features of a newspaper article. A huge congratulations to all of our children who were presented with certificates this morning.

Next week, Year 2 have their first fixture of the season. They host Amesbury on Friday to play football at 1:30pm. Please can the children bring in shin pads on this day and, only if they already have them, their football boots.

Have a lovely weekend.

The Bacon Butties stall brightened up the morning once again, with a profit of £211.06 today. It’s always such a heartwarming, friendly spot to start a Friday!
