This week, our Reception children have been making the most of the beautiful grounds during maths lessons. They’ve been exploring the concepts of sharing fairly and grouping in fun and engaging ways. Using sticks, leaves and pine cones, the children investigated odd and even numbers through various grouping and sharing activities. One exciting challenge had the children collecting as many pine cones as they could in just one minute. Afterwards, they worked together to share the pine cones fairly and determine if the total was an odd or even number. There was some very careful organising of the pine cones to make them easier to count, some amazingly accurate counting and grouping. Well done Reception, great mathematical thinking this week.
