I’ve just received the latest copy of Whizz, Pop, Bang magazine into the Prep Library which is all about dinosaurs! It’s full of information, interactive ideas and activities which could suit any age group of children at Barrow Hills. Last month’s issue was all about fire, including an article on the Great Fire of London and a double page spread on fire engines, as well as the science of fire. The first issue we received focused on the science of sleep and other interesting facts on this topic.
It is thanks to the BHCC that our library is lucky enough to receive this magazine subscription, and several others, which provide us with a constantly updating resource and fun reading materials for the children.
A magazine subscription can be such a great Christmas present for children, not only because it can be tailored to their specific interests whether it be football or the planets, but also because it provides a variety in style of reading and a subtle way to increase their subject knowledge, as well as an ongoing gift that arrives for weeks or months after Christmas is long over!
