World Book Week is rushing up upon us once again and takes place throughout the school from Monday 28th February to Friday 4th March. There will be a variety of activities taking place during the week but some of the most exciting are the opportunities we have arranged for all the children to meet and spend some time with real life authors.
On the morning of Tuesday 1st March, Pre-Prep will be welcoming the local author Helen Hamill from Buttonhole Press. Helen lives in Esher, and writes picture books based on the concept of characters as buttons. Helen will run a series of fun, interactive storytime sessions and craft activities based on her book, Blossom & Bud – The Gardener Button.
If you would like to pre-order signed copies of her books, please use this google form.
On Thursday 3 March, Years 3 to 6 will be spending time with the author Colin R. Parsons for talks and activities. Colin is an author of children’s and YA fiction, but his books and he lives in South Wales. He writes in many genres including sci-fi, fantasy, and the supernatural, but his books are always exciting and filled with fast-paced adventure, peppered with intrigue and danger and he has a reputation for being a fun and engaging speaker.

Also, on Thursday, Years 7 and 8 will be travelling up to King Edward’s Witley by minibus to join children from other local schools for an author visit from Mimi Thebo. Mimi is a Carnegie-longlisted author for children and teens, whose work has even been adapted for a BAFTA-winning BBC film. Born in the USA, she is now based in South West England, where she is Associate Professor in Creative Writing at the University of Bristol. Our children will have the chance to hear about her work, as well as hearing an inspirational talk about the importance of reading for pleasure.
