Blessed with another glorious week, the children headed back to the orchard, this time to capture the apples in all their glory! They were split into groups and asked to sit and really look at an apple tree. Look at the colours, the shape, texture and size of the tree. Observing how the branches bowed, laden with apples. How some parts of the tree had more apples than others and wonder why this had happened?
The Reception children have created a beautiful autumnal display in their classroom using their paintings of the apple trees. There is so much personal interpretation and movement amongst the branches, each one different.
Reception’s second lesson of the week was spent up in the Pre-Prep Forest School area. There we sat around the fire circle going through some of the safety rules for being in the woods and learnt a game called ‘1,2,3, Where are you?’ which allows the children to easily reconnect with the group should they wander off.
Nursery and Kindy had a lovely morning painting the apple trees in the orchard. Their ability to sit and observe was extremely impressive; it was a calm and mindful lesson.
Year 1 decided to split themselves into girls versus boys and make it a painting competition! Some outstanding work was produced, with amazing observations from the boys, “the tree lichen had a blue glow to it in the afternoon sunshine”. This was followed by a session of ‘show and tell’ where everyone had the opportunity to reveal their painting and give a personal critique of it.
Year 2 split into mixed groups and gathered in the shade of the orchard to observe, discuss, paint and then critique their apple tree. These paintings have been added to a display of animals previously painted by the children, to create a stunning outside/woodland scene along the first floor corridor.
