I would like to thank three Barrow Hills parents who took the time to come to talk about their careers to Year 7 and 8.
First of all, Mrs Oldham, who works for a global sport management and marketing business as Head of PR & Communications, talked to the children about different careers in sport. She told them about what it takes and the qualities needed to succeed as a sports agent such as willingness, good listening skills, being hard working and positive. She even had a couple of videos of Sir Chris Hoy OBE who told them what he would say if he could go back in time and talk to himself when he was 12 years old. Also of Rebecca Adlington OBE talking about her swimming career.
Then a couple of weeks later, Mr Gökalp, who is Co-founder and CEO of Coda Labs, a company which focuses on building fun mobile gaming experiences, talked to the children about what he did before creating his company and that his love of gaming inspired him to start it.
Lastly on Monday this week, Ms Davidson, who is the managing director of Davidson London, a family run furniture design company, talked about her difficulty at school and how, with a clear vision, she managed to turn her parents’ business into what it is today.
All three talks were highly inspiring and showed the children that with passion, hard work and resilience, they can achieve amazing careers. Year 7 and 8 were very interested and had great questions afterwards. I hope to be able to invite more parents to talk about their careers next year and inspire our children.
