What a fabulous week we had last week, British weather at its best. An ever changing mixture of sunshine and showers, nobody knew what to wear!
At Forest School it is important to wear appropriate clothing, something that covers your arms and legs, to protect you from bugs, plants and other irritants. It is also a good idea to have a set of waterproofs in school, as we go out in all weathers.
Last week we looked at life cycles, in particular the life cycle of a butterfly. Using props from the hugely popular ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ book, Nursery and Kindy children enjoyed recreating the story using their drama skills. We crouched small as the egg on a leaf, we wriggled on our bellies, commando style, pretending to be the hungry caterpillar eating everything, then we curled up and slept in our chrysalises until it was time to break free and become beautiful butterflies.
Reception, Year 1 and 2 children were able to extend their lesson discussing metamorphosis, symmetry and other interesting facts about butterflies as well as other life cycles. Reception also made natural maps of our Forest School area, using things found in the woods. They then transferred these ideas onto paper back in the classroom. How very creative!
