The Gothia Cup is the world’s largest and most international youth football tournament. Each year, around 1700 teams from 80 nations take part, playing 4500 matches on 110 pitches, with an opening ceremony to rival the Commonwealth Games! During the summer holidays, six boys from Barrow Hills represented the Prep Schools’ Lions – Bo, Freddie, Alex, Monty, Gus and Hamish.
The football was of a very high standard. Bo, Freddie and Alex played some great games against two Swedish teams, two German teams and a very strong Latvian team. Bo, as ever, was strong in defence, whilst Freddie and Alex both scored valuable goals for their team. Monty and Hamish’s team did brilliantly and came 7th out of 59 teams worldwide in their league table, with Monty scoring a hat trick! Gus’ Gothia team played their socks off and won their last three games, most notably beating both club sides from France and Sweden.
Boys, you are fantastic, well done!
