The last two weeks of term have been spent preparing our Nativity scene in the woods. The star was beautifully decorated by the Reception children and the stable was built by dragging branches through the woods. The children decided if they were too short or just right and then carefully lifted them into position, angling them just so; Nativity maths! Mary and Joseph were part dragged, part wobbled around the fire circle into their position in front of the stable.
Nursery munched biscuits as they listened to the Nativity story, before feeding the birds and decorating the Forest School tree with painted pinecones. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 made individual Christmas trees using the fallen branches of the Silver Birch trees. The branches are easy to snap by hand so the only challenge was to arrange the pieces in order from shortest to longest to create the Christmas tree effect. Christmas tree maths!
The children have played ‘Nativity salad’, an adaptation of their favourite game, ‘fruit salad’ using Nativity characters rather than fruit. They then followed a trail of stars through the woods, stopping to complete the various tasks written on them.
Merry Christmas to you all and I look forward to seeing the children in the New Year.
