Last week in Forest School, we celebrated Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent.
Unsurprisingly, when asked, the children knew the day as ‘pancake day’, a day you “HAVE TO” eat pancakes, rather than a Christian celebration. I guess it’s a sign of the times!
Having explained the true meaning, I asked the children to think about what they would be prepared to go without, or take up, for 40 days. The children had lots of suggestions, including Year 1: “school” and Reception: “jacket potatoes”!
We turned our pancake races into a Pre-Prep House competition, with everyone earning points for their allocated House. Oak earnt 150 points, Maple earnt 165 points and Willow were the winners with 195 points.
Everyone had a lovely time racing with pancakes. Thank you to all the staff who raced to make up the numbers!
