Well school was never this much fun when we were young! In maths, the children have been expanding their doubling skills by doing ‘two of a kind’ baking. Some made biscuits and used cutters to create two of each shape. Some iced cupcakes and added sweeties and chocolate chips to make pairs. What a delicious way to learn! They have been writing maths sentences, doubling up to twenty, even using sticks, leaves and stones gathered from the garden to count with.
Their literacy has continued with writing sentences, handwriting, comprehension and learning new sounds. “oo poo at the zoo” is a highlight of the Reception year and always raises a giggle!
The children have investigated British flowers and flags as part of their work on maps and created messy, 3D maps to accompany the story ‘We Are Going On A Bear Hunt’. Madame Early’s French lesson was all about baking gateaux and in music everyone had fun doing funny face warm ups and learning new songs. It is lovely to see siblings joining in with Mrs Hardy. Reception@Home is a family affair! Outdoor classroom focused on British birds and the children tied in their creative writing to find interesting facts about their favourite garden visitors.
Reception children share their own activities too: ‘Iguanodon bones’ dug up in a garden, flowers frozen into ice ornaments, and a witch casting a spell on her cat! It is truly joyful to see them as engaged and enthusiastic at home as they are in school, and it seems as though a superhero cape or a pair of bling sunglasses are definite aids to learning!
Mrs Harris and Mrs Reed commented,
“Our thanks to all the parents doing such sterling work in supporting their child through these challenging circumstances.”
