This week, the children’s enthusiasm for planting seeds was sparked by our reading of ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle. This story led to the children discussing the life cycle of a seed, comparing it to other life cycles they have been learning about. The children were keen to get their green fingers into action so Mrs Reed set up a planting station in the garden. The children planted a selection of seeds including bee-friendly wildflowers, sunflowers, carrots and lettuce. The children understand that the seeds will need light and water to germinate and they are looking forward to monitoring the progress of the seeds over the next few weeks. We have popped the pots on our sunny windowsill to give them some warmth to get started. When the plants are strong enough the children will find a space for them in the garden and plant them out.
