The Summer Reading Challenge starts on the 9th July in libraries. This scheme has been proven to stop the ‘summer dip’ in reading and is great fun to take part in. The theme this year is the Gadgeteers and has been developed in partnership with the Science Museum. The Challenge will inspire children to look at science in all its forms, from fashion and sport to music and food.
If you are not already a member of a local library, it is quick and easy to join and you just need proof of your name and address. A library card also gives you access to the Libby App which allows you to download books and magazines to your device.
The aim of the Summer Reading Challenge is to read up to six books, collecting special stickers and rewards along the way. All reading counts, including audiobooks, eBooks and eComics. There is a challenge for 4-11 year olds and also a mini challenge aimed at children three years and younger.
If you are over 11 years old or if you can’t visit the library you can still take part remotely by following this link and posting book reviews. Register yourself and add child profiles. The website has lots of games and a book finder too.
Happy Summer Reading – I look forward to hearing about all the books you have read over the summer holidays.
