Webtastic fun in the woods last week! Continuing the mini topic of spiders, the children got rather tied up in a giant spider web, which had mysteriously appeared in a clearing. The idea was to try and reach the other side without touching the web and triggering the giant spider.
The older children had a good go at balancing and manoeuvring under and over the web, while the younger children were equally happy getting caught up and captured by the spider (AKA Mr Hatcher!).
KS1 children revisited their rope lashing skills, using three sticks of equal length to make their own mini spider webs. They also learnt a few new facts about spiders; they spend roughly an hour every day making a new web and a group of spiders is known as a clutter or cluster.
“I have been so impressed by the children’s ability to learn and recall information about spiders, it has been lovely, everyone sharing knowledge and learning from each other.”
Kindy went on a ‘resilience’ walk, wandering a bit further than normal into the woods, through the bamboo and down a very uneven hill. They coped really well with falling over and getting themselves up, and soon learnt to pick their feet up when walking.
Reception used their imagination to turn a favourite climbing tree into the mixer of a giant chocolate bar machine, producing any kind of chocolate you asked it for! Then their second lesson of the week was used to create a giant star to be used in our forest Nativity scene.
