This week has been full of excitement in Reception as we welcomed eight eggs in an incubator into our class on Tuesday. The children could hear their muffled chirps and when they came in on Wednesday morning one had already pipped.
The children enjoyed watching the crack on the shell gradually getting bigger throughout the day. By 3 o’clock the first chick had hatched and the children could not believe the size of it compared to the shell he had just come out of. There was much anticipation on Thursday morning as the children eagerly bounded into school to see what had been happening over night. The sounds of chirping filled the corridor and the children were delighted to see that two chicks had hatched, and another was well on its way.
The children have previously been learning about the life cycle of a chicken and this experience is really bringing their learning to life. The children have been eagerly adding their own writing and pictures to their chick scrap books. We will keep you updated on their progress!
