This week, the Barrow Hills library has been supporting World Nursery Rhyme Week.
The week promotes the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood development and education with a particular focus on how nursery rhymes boost early language and literacy skills.
Thanks to Mrs Beddington who took the weekly music lessons on tour around the school. We had two lunchtime concerts performed by Year 3 and 4, who performed their favourite nursery rhymes to the lower years as they ate their lunch. Year 4 visited the Year 1 and 2 classrooms to share their rhymes. Everyone enjoyed singing together and doing all the actions proving you are never too old to sing a nursery rhyme!
The classrooms have also been full of singing and nursery rhyme activities. The pre-prep classes learnt the rhymes of the week included The Big Ship Sails, 1,2,3,4,5, Five Little Speckled Frogs, BINGO, Twinkle Twinkle little star.
There has also been singing in the library, books and music… a perfect combination.
