Year 1 had a fantastic trip to The Toy Room and School Room (part of The Guildford Museum). The children behaved beautifully, listening to all the information, answering questions and we were very impressed with the questions they asked too.
The children sang traditional nursery rhymes (the favourite song was ‘Oranges and Lemons’) and dressed in Victorian clothes. The boys looked extremely smart in waistcoats and the girls loved wearing white pinafores. They looked at a range of toys and were able to sort them into old and new toys based on the materials they were made from. The children loved playing with the Victorian toys, particular favourites were the china tea set, the dolls house and the skittles. The children spent time in The School Room sitting at Victorian desks (with straight backs!) and they each made a paper hat. The children enjoyed all the fantastic learning opportunities to support the topic of Victorians. The weather was lovely so we had time to walk round the beautiful castle gardens.
Thank you so much to Mrs Pickard for helping and to Mr Withers for driving the minibus.
Well to all of Year 1, we were so proud of you.
Mrs Crisell
