What have the BHCC been up to I hear you ask? Here is a summary…

Firstly, thank you to everyone who baked, sold, tidied, emailed, organised and safety checked!

Thank you also to all who attended or participated in the events we have run. It makes a huge difference to what we can give back to school projects.

On that note look out for some exciting news in the New Year when I should be able to share some information about where your contributions to the BHCC are going… watch this space.

Anyway, back to the summary, all I can say it was a busy one! Here’s a round up:

  • Sold fabulous bacon butties
  • Bought, cut and arranged flowers for school
  • Paid for the fireworks, shiny things and food
  • Sold a lot of Christmas puddings
  • Organised and ran a fantastic Christmas workshop
  • Sold (and ate) a lot of cakes from the cake sales
  • Organised a special afternoon cake sale for Macmillan
  • Sold a lot of Christmas trees
  • Organised the wine and cheese tasting with Haslemere Cellar
  • Organised and distributed the children’s Christmas cards and gifts
  • Bought all the Pre-Prep Christmas presents – thank you Santa!
  • Donated all our left over Pre-Prep Christmas gifts from this year and years past to St Mark’s Community Church to help those less fortunate this festive period.

Look out for a lot of fun next term – BHCC meeting January 16th – everyone welcome.

Thank you again and have a wonderful festive break.

Lauren

Lost Earring

An earring has been found outside chapel. If you have lost an earring and think it may be yours, please contact Mr Shreeve jls@barrowhills.org

Phones and Tablets

In 2020, smartphone and tablet users spent a global total of around £330 million on downloading apps over the Christmas period. The following year, the UK alone saw almost seven million video games being given as gifts. The holiday season, in short, heralds a major spike in young people encountering new games and apps for the first time.

So far, so festive. And although games and apps mainly offer harmless fun, there are still risks to remain aware of – from realistic violence in this year’s must-have shooter to contact from strangers on the latest networking platform. Please do take a look at the guide found at the bottom of the newsletter which has some top tips for enabling youngsters to enjoy their new apps and games more safely this Christmas.

Uniform Reminder

Please could we kindly remind you about the following school uniform:

  • Hair accessories, including scrunchies, should be either burgundy or blue
  • Any hair that is below the shoulder should be completely tied back
  • Hair should not be dyed
  • Children should not have coloured braids in their hair
  • All earrings should be small plain studs.

Thank you for your support in enforcing that the children arrive to school in the correct uniform.

Primary Times

The latest edition of the Primary Times can be found here.

Bacon Butty Stall

We kindly ask that children do not bring food and hot drinks in to school buildings that have been purchased on Friday morning from the Bacon Butty stall. The food tends to be dropped along corridors and in classrooms and the hot drinks are a concern when being carried around the school – particularly to younger children. Thank you.

Food and Drink in Chapel

We kindly ask that you do not bring food or drink into Chapel, thank you.

Cancellation of Fixtures

If fixtures are cancelled due to adverse weather, please be assured that we will notify you as soon as we are aware of the change.

Term Dates

Term dates can be found on the school website https://www.barrowhills.org/news-events/term-dates/

Absence Request Form

This Absence Request Form must be completed for any reason that a child is not in school, other than illness. These are also found on the Parent Portal. Thank you.

Portal

Please can we remind you that the majority of the communications are sent via the parent portal on a Tuesday. Communications will vary for each child dependent on a variety of factors e.g. class, gender, sets. The Prep team sheet can be changed at any time therefore we encourage you to check the portal on a regular basis.
