Macmillan Coffee Morning

Thank you everyone for attending, it was lovely to see so many parents back in school. Thank you also for your generosity, we raised £528.01 (and 1 euro) for Macmillan. The final thank you goes to the helpers, we could not run these events without you.

In July, we bade farewell to Cris Martin St Valery, our Chair for the last two years. We now extend a warm welcome to David Brydon for one year only. The Brydon’s eldest daughter joined Barrow Hills in 2007 and her two sisters followed, with the youngest now in Year 8.

Can you help?

The BHCC relies on parent participation to ensure successful events. Every parent at Barrow Hills is automatically a member of the Committee and very welcome to come to meetings or pop an idea over. We hope that you continue to support us, beginning with the events planned for the rest of this term. If you feel you can help please contact your rep (see details below), David Brydon or if volunteers are needed you can sign up on Classlist when the event is published.

If you have any questions please contact David Brydon on davidbrydon1992@googlemail.com

2020 /21 Round Up
In our autumn 2020 newsletter we said that fundraising would be very different for the foreseeable future. Little did we know then what a year it would be! Although we hope 2020/21 is never repeated, the Barrow Hills Community Committee (BHCC) still managed to remain active within the community.

Our annual Hog Roast (now the Welcome Back Barbeque), normally held shortly after our return in September, had to be cancelled in 2020. Therefore, our first event of the year should have been our annual firework display. Although we could not have the fireworks, or indeed welcome parents, the dads built an amazing bonfire for the children to enjoy. The children gathered in their bubbles for their warming drink and s’mores before the Prep children made their way to the field. Pre-Prep enjoyed a slightly smaller fire in their own Forest School area. As darkness fell, the bubbles were easily identifiable by their different coloured glow bands and there was plenty of space for the children to enjoy themselves in their designated areas, carefully marked out with bunting.

For Christmas, the children designed their own cards and had a wonderful week of festive fun; including snow, Santa and even real reindeer! The festivities culminated in an amazing colour run! The committee also sold trees and puddings to help bolster their funds.

We would normally hold an Easter workshop but as parents were still not allowed into school, the children enjoyed a day of crafts; creating Easter wreaths and ceramic egg baskets, followed by an Easter Egg hunt courtesy of the BHCC.

“I cannot thank the BHCC enough for the wonderful stage lighting and lighting desk. Year 5 and 6 were thrilled to see our new spot lights and colour fades in action during The Wizard of Oz in the summer term and I know Year 8 are looking forward to experiencing the professional lighting effects in their December production of The Rocky Monster Show. Drama is a big part of life at Barrow Hills and the lighting will benefit all children and transform our productions. Thank you again!”

Commemorative Bricks

Name a brick and make a lasting impression! This is your chance to have your child’s name added to those already adorning the wall of the Lower. Started in 2011 by an Old Barrow Hillian, a personalised brick is the perfect way to leave a lasting tribute to their time at Barrow Hills.

For just £25.00 you can add two lines of text to a terracotta brick; size 215x65x15mm. Each line represents a line of text with up to 16 characters (including spaces and punctuation).

Not only will your brick mark your child’s place in the history of the school, but your donation will help support the BHCC fund future projects. This is an exciting opportunity in which we can all join together to record our support for Barrow Hills School.

Please contact Rachel Barraud on rlb@barrowhills.org for more information.
