May Day Celebrations

With the bank holiday weekend approaching, we have been familiarising ourselves with a few British traditions.

The first of May has long been celebrated as a spring festival. Villages and towns often hold fetes, parades or festivals, people decorate their homes with flower posies and they dance around a maypole, to welcome the warmer summer months.

My favourite May Day tradition is the Morris dancers, they wear bells, hats full of flowers and often wave handkerchiefs or wooden batons as part of their energetic dances. So we’ve been ringing bells and waving handkerchiefs while skipping around the fire circle this week!

I challenge anyone not to start tapping their feet when they hear the accordion play and the dancing starts!
