Barrow Hills Community CommitteeWelcome to the BHCC

An important part of our warm and thriving community, the Barrow Hills Community Committee (BHCC) organises and runs a series of events throughout the year for children and adults with the aim of fundraising for charity and the School as well as creating memorable experiences that will be cherished by all for years to come.

For example, we hold a family BBQ at the start of autumn term and host the year end summer party. We also run a series events that our children simply love, such as fireworks night and our Christmas decoration workshop.

Our philosophy

All of our activities and events are developed to involve everybody and allow our children to experience the positive human attributes of warm emotional intelligence and collaboration across our whole school community.

All our events are ‘opt in’ (there’s no expectation that any parent or carer must or should donate, attend or volunteer), though we aim to develop a sense of fun, inclusiveness and  community in the School by inviting everyone to do so.

We try very hard not to just ask for money to support BHCC activities. Rather, where possible, we request donations of time or of items that can be used in fundraising (for example old clothes or perhaps leftover presents after Christmas that could be enjoyed as a prize in a raffle).

Money is of course important given we are a fundraising body, but so is time spent in School to enrich the school day. We aim to encourage the children to see how giving time can be as valuable as a financial contribution, and often more so.

Volunteering

We understand that not everyone has the time to volunteer. However, if you do it is uniquely satisfying to know we are enriching our children’s education and our children are pleased to see us as part of the school community.

Our volunteer committee organise events throughout the school year.  Even if you don’t want to be on the committee there are many chances to volunteer to support the School, from baking a cake for a cake sale to helping the children decorate an Easter egg.

Charity

We support the School’s charitable endeavours by hosting community events such as a Macmillan Coffee Morning and Harvest Festival involving our whole community in baking, making, bringing or sharing. Depending on the activity chosen for Lenten appeal we very often support the children in their activities in that week.

Class Reps

Our wonderful class reps are the glue that hold the BHCC events together, sharing information between the parents and then organising and running events. In particular the class rep coordinates meetings between each year group to ensure, whether parents are joining the Early Years or the Prep, they have a route to getting actively involved.

Join us at an Open Morning

The best way to experience what life is like at Barrow Hills is to join us at an Open Morning. You will have the chance to talk to children and teachers about what makes our school such a magical place, and to ask any questions you have about life here.
