Barrow Hills Ski Trip – Claviere Italy 2025

The 2025 Barrow Hills ski trip to Claviere, Italy, was a week full of adventure, achievement, and unforgettable memories. Though the trip began with an unexpected twist—an evacuation of Gatwick Airport due to a fire alarm—this moment of chaos was short-lived. From that point onward, we enjoyed what can only be described as a golden week. Following our eventful departure, the group settled quickly into the rhythm of the trip. Claviere, a charming resort nestled in the Italian Alps and part of the vast Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area, proved to be the perfect setting. The children were impeccably behaved throughout the week, showing constant kindness and support for one another. Their conduct was a credit to both themselves and to Barrow Hills.

From the very first morning on the slopes, our beginner group amazed everyone with their rapid progress. In fact, after just a few hours on skis, they were already making their way up the mountain—something that even surprised their instructors. All groups, regardless of ability, showed significant development over the course of the week. The snow conditions were excellent throughout, and a fresh snowfall on the penultimate day made for an unforgettable final day of skiing. Blue skies and powder snow created ideal conditions for both fun and learning. On that last morning, all students took part in a ski test. The instructors were once again thoroughly impressed with the level of progress made by every group. The final day was made even more special by a trip over the border into Montgenèvre, the French resort accessible directly from Claviere, allowing the children to experience skiing in two countries in one day.

The evenings were just as enjoyable as the days. With a varied programme of activities including games, quizzes, movies, and a disco, the children had plenty of chances to relax, bond, and enjoy time together off the slopes. The atmosphere throughout the week was one of fun, cooperation, and shared achievement.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the dedicated staff who made this trip possible—Mr Smith, Mr Mullins, Mrs Mullins, and Mr Unwin—whose organisation, encouragement, and care ensured the success of the week. And most importantly, thank you to the children, who were outstanding ambassadors for Barrow Hills at every turn. Their enthusiasm, resilience, and camaraderie made the trip a truly special experience.

The 2025 Barrow Hills ski trip to Claviere was an outstanding success. With excellent skiing, beautiful weather, and a group of children who embraced every opportunity with maturity and joy, it will be remembered fondly by all who took part.
