Educational VisitsSupporting the curriculum and beyond

At Barrow Hills, learning goes beyond the classroom with a comprehensive programme of activities at School and exciting trips for pupils of all ages. Our pupils explore new ideas through workshops and real-world experiences, helping them grow both academically and socially and making learning more fun, meaningful, and unforgettable.

We host a wide range of workshops each year to enrich the curriculum at Barrow Hills. Recent examples include STEM workshops offering insight into applied physics, delivered in partnership with the McLaren race team, and biology workshops led by a leading conservationist. In the humanities, we have enjoyed hosting Viking re-enactments, as well as visits from well-known authors, actors and artists. We also work closely with the Fire Service and medical professionals, rolling up our sleeves to support practical, and in some cases life-saving, applications of learning.

Alongside this, we offer a broad programme of visits and trips that enables our pupils to explore the world around them. We balance short day trips, to farms, museums and galleries closely linked to our curriculum in art, history, geography, sciences and literature, with more adventurous overnight residential experiences. Opportunities for independence and immersion are carefully staged, beginning in Year 3 with a residential at the Sayers Croft Environmental Centre, and developing further as pupils grow older through adventurous sport in Snowdonia or language immersion in France.

We also take our sports teams and choir ‘on tour’, and during school holidays we offer exciting additional opportunities, such as a ski trip.
