Nursery & KindySupporting confident, active learners

Rooted in strong values of kindness and compassion, we are proud to be widely recognised as a vibrant, welcoming Nursery, enabling children to grow and achieve during their youngest years; 100% of our pupils achieve a Good level of development in the Early Years Foundation Stage; nationally the average is 66%.

With our bespoke EYFS curriculum combined with specialist lessons, Barrow Hills Nursery provides a smoother transition to formal schooling, as children begin developing foundational academic skills sooner. Our children show increasing confidence and independence as they familiarise themselves with school routines which sets them up for success throughout their schooling years and beyond.

Our Kindy children are already being introduced to sounds of the week through the ‘Read Write Inc programme’, which all staff are trained in. They join Pre-Prep performances, celebrations, Sports Day and lunch times, as well as the whole school awards assembly. They are a key part of our Barrow Hills community.

Igniting imaginations

Our kind and responsive teachers observe and listen to the children carefully, selecting topics and activities that ignite their curiosity and imagination. We believe children are happiest and learn most effectively when they are engaged in experiences that reflect their own interests. As each group of children is unique, these topics naturally evolve from term to term and year to year.

Immersed in nature’s classroom

Our idyllic woodland setting and approach to learning gives our children space to play, explore, feel connected and grow beyond the norm.

We regularly take Forest School–style outings to the woods, extending our indoor learning into the outdoor environment and children head out in all weathers, warmly dressed and ready to explore.

Our high teacher-to-child ratios ensure even our youngest children are safe while developing independence and confidence in their outdoor classroom. In addition to woodland visits, each classroom has access to covered outdoor play areas, meaning outdoor play is a solid foundation of every day at Barrow Hills.
