Learning FoundationsFoundations that support confident learners

Every child’s first experience of school at Barrow Hills is joyful and rooted in play. Playing is fundamental to every child’s learning and we aim to inspire our children to feel excited about learning from their very first day with us.

The Early Years framework is the basis for all our teaching and learning, but our bespoke curriculum extends learning much further with an expansive co-curricular offering. Sport, French and Music are taught by specialists, in addition to Forest School which is just one part of the children’s outdoor activities in our natural classroom environment.

Small class sizes ensure every child is well supported, with daily activities shaped around individual interests. This results in children having regular opportunities to share their successes, whether through show and tell, artwork, or performances.

Celebrating successes

With broad friendships and social learning in mind, our Nursery children are given many opportunities to mix with our Kindy children, to play and learn side-by-side. They also join the rest of Pre-Prep to participate in drama and music productions (big and small), when we feel they are ready.

Barrow Hills School feels like a family: one with a great big garden, space to run and play, and a lot of love.

It’s lovely to see the children getting lost in their own imaginations, being creative, constructive and self-motivated, and progressing to their senior schools having taken advantage of the natural environment we offer.”

We like to think of Barrow Hill’s children as being ‘free-range kids’ who just get out there. For as we say at Barrow Hills, there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing choices.

Admissions

We warmly invite you to experience the magic of our school where our children flourish academically, socially and emotionally, to talk to pupils and teachers about what makes our school such a special place, and to answer any questions you have about life here.
