Upper Prep Technology & AIEmbracing the positive

The intersection of technology and education enables us to ‘be prepared for greater things.’

Our Computing and AI curriculum acts as a catalyst for deepening pupils’ learning while upholding our pastoral and caring ethos. With a breadth and depth that includes coding, web and app design, and robotics, our curriculum empowers pupils with the skills to thrive in a digital world. The digital literacy component equips pupils to stay safe online while fostering critical thinking. It also ensures they use technology effectively, responsibly, and ethically.

In an era where excessive screen time can detract from the joys of childhood, we ensure that our use of technology serves clear and meaningful purposes.

In Upper-Prep Curriculum Benefits

  • We emphasise the transformative application of technology, helping pupils develop confidence in its practical use. From solving mathematical problems using spreadsheets, building and coding robots to solve real world problems and creating bespoke design solutions with 3D printers, our pupils are well prepared to innovate and excel. Examples of outcomes include:
    • Scientific Exploration: Using data loggers in Science to access real-time feedback on experiments, enabling pupils to draw evidence-based conclusions from investigations.
    • Digital Literacy and Ethics: Developing a critical understanding of concepts such as accuracy, bias, and ethics within digital landscapes.
    • Immersive Learning: Employing virtual reality headsets and holo cubes in the Humanities subjects,  Maths and Science to explore 3D models. These range from recreations of historical buildings to detailed visualisations of human organs or the structure of the atom, allowing pupils to grasp complex concepts. Using Virtual Reality and other immersive technologies to provide stimulus for creative storytelling and writing in all year groups.
    • Creative Presentations: Providing each pupil with a personal laptop and the skills create presentation decks in English and Humanities. This deepens their understanding of ambitious topics, from Gothic literature to the impact of the Industrial Revolution.
    • Online Safety: Ensuring pupils have a practical understanding of online risks, including personal data privacy and how to navigate platforms and the web responsibly.

More broadly, as part of the Bridewell Royal Hospital , we engage in research-based models, collaborating with local universities and specialist technology partners to drive bold innovations that benefit all our pupils.
