Laughing and playing is essential to our learning and well-being. This week we have been playing games together. Games that involve everyone excitedly building a community, using social skills, listening, observing, discussing and having a shared responsibility for the game and possible outcomes.
We played a game called ‘Animal Name’, where everyone has to think of a type of animal whose initials are the same as their name, for example, Mrs Wilson Wildebeest! We practised remembering everyone’s ‘new’ name, then stood in a circle with a ball. The game is to say a person’s animal name then throw the ball to them to catch, repeat so that everyone gets a turn.
The game is lots of fun, with people getting confused about who was the ant, the antelope or in fact the anteater! Another favourite of ours is ‘Fruit Salad’, which we play all year round.
Sunflower update… a few are already starting to grow on my classroom window sill!
