Barrow Hills holds First-Ever House Maths Competition

Excitement filled the air last week Thursday as pupils took part in the school’s very first House Maths Competition. Children from across all year groups came together in their house teams to test their mathematical thinking and teamwork skills in a series of mathematical challenges.

The competition involved learners of each age group completing a series of approximately 120 maths questions of varying difficulty. To make things more challenging, they had only 10 minutes in which to complete the questions! Questions ranged from simple addition for the Year 1s, to complex algebraic equations for the Year 8s. The competition was about more than just getting the right answer – it was about working collaboratively, thinking creatively, and having fun with maths.

There was no shortage of enthusiasm nor shying away from completing the questions. It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic.

Unsurprisingly it was a very close race for each house. Kean came in at third place, followed by Murtough in second place, and McCormack in first place. Well done everyone!

Plans are already underway to make the House Maths Competition an annual event, with even more exciting rounds and puzzles to look forward to next year.

Well done all!
