Your Admissions JourneyFive key steps
Our Admissions team is here to support you at every step of your child’s journey and we aim to make the journey towards starting school as straightforward and exciting as possible for you and your child.
Our key intake points are Nursery, Kindy, Reception, Year 3 and Year 7 although children often join us throughout the school, as and when occasional places are available. As children are often still very young when they join us, our admissions and assessment process is very gentle. In fact, the children are often unaware that they are even being assessed.
The best way to experience what life is like at Barrow Hills is to see it first-hand. We recommend that all prospective parents and pupils visit our school for one of our magical Open Mornings or arrange a personal visit which will take into account your daughter or son’s interests and will give you an excellent feel for all our school has to offer. Usually lasting around 90-minutes your visit will include a meeting with our Head, Mrs John Towers, opportunities to see the school community in action and a chance to meet and talk with our children as you on a tour of our excellent facilities.
- Registration. After your visit, the next stage is registration, which places your child on the waiting list to join us for a taster morning and gentle assessment in the year preceding the desired entry year.
- Spend a day with us. Your son or daughter will be invited to spend a day with us and experience all we have to offer inside and outside of the classroom. During their taster day, they will meet potential peers in learning and at play. Informal assessment in mathematics and English will take place (Year 3 entry and above)
- Application assessment. We will review previous if your son or daughter is already in school, and references received. In addition to the results of assessments in English and Maths conducted on their taster day with us.
- Offer received. Successful applicants will receive a formal offer, with a requirement to accept the offered place within four weeks. An acceptance deposit will be required at this stage (£600.00)
- Complete registration and orientation. We’ll guide you through our registration process and invite your son or daughter to setting in and orientation sessions so that you and they can all hit the ground running when starting school with us.
