News from Upper Prep

24th November 2023

The Upper Prep teachers were delighted to welcome Years 7 and 8 back to school this week and enjoyed hearing about their half term breaks.  Year 8 children have been busy revising for their mock exams which start on November 14th and I have been very impressed to hear about their hard work and focus during the half term holiday.  It is great to know that they have been successfully applying revision techniques from the study skills workshop in October.

Year 7 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Battle Abbey on Monday where they learnt more about the Battle of Hastings.  Year 7 had a great time – despite the weather!

War Hammer Club is now running every Thursday lunchtime and is proving very  popular with the Year 7 children.

Year 8 continue to rehearse for their production of ‘Annie’ on Friday 8th December.  The Drama Captains, Izzy A, Izzy R and Eloise, visited Petersfield Wardrobe Hire with Mrs Mason and Mrs Goedkoop in half term to select some costumes for the show.  The Drama Enrichment students enjoyed trying these on at their after school drama session on Thursday evening.

Year 8 also enjoyed a Google meet with Mr Hooker during their form time on Friday afternoon.  It was so lovely to catch up with him and hear all his news from Ireland.  We do hope he will be able to call in for a visit sometime this year.

Finally, a former Year 8 pupil visited the school this week.  Alexander, who left Barrow Hills in 2019 for a Year 9 entry to Worth, is now on a GAP year before going to Exeter University to study Philosophy and Russian.  Mrs Mason, Mrs Goedkoop, Mrs Campbell-John and Mr Shreeve enjoyed reminiscing about his days at Barrow Hills – and especially his fantastic performance as Marius in ‘Les Misérables’ in 2018.  It seems like only yesterday!
