Potion Play & Farmyard Fun inspired by Handa's Hen
The children had lots of fun making potions together this week. They used coloured water, syringes, and different sized containers to mix and pour their magical mixtures. They were fascinated as they watched the colours change while squeezing syringes and carefully pouring their potions into goblets, all while chanting their own magic spells. There was so much joy and excitement as the children created their very own magic.
We have been exploring the story Handa’s Hen! The children have been very engaged in learning about farm animals and enjoyed taking part in lots of hands-on activities inspired by the story. In our farm-themed tuff tray, we included woodland animals, sand, and natural materials to encourage the children to explore different textures and use their imagination in play. The children particularly loved using real corn to “feed the chickens,” just like Handa does in the story!
We also had lovely discussions about sharing, thinking about how Handa and her friend work together, and we talked about where corn comes from and how it grows.
We wish you a wonderful half term.
