Year 1 visit Brooklands Transport Museum
We had a wonderful trip to Brooklands this week, to enhance our learning in our ‘Sails, Rails, Wheels and Wings’ topic.
We started off with a guided tour of ‘Journeys by Air’, looking at early day aeroplanes such as the Sopwith Camel, through planes from World War II, to more modern day jets. The children enjoyed exploring inside some of the planes; and walking through the shell of a Vickers Wellington and looking at the sorts of jobs the crew would have been engaged in.
Then we looked at early bicycles, motorbikes and cars in the Motoring Village, The children were particularly taken by the sports cars and the cases upon cases of shiny trophies!
After a quick stop for lunch, we had a tour of the Bus Museum, from original horse-drawn buses, through to electric ones. The children enjoyed climbing to the top deck of the buses, and trying their hand at taking the wheel!
A highlight of the day was going on Concorde and learning about this amazing aircraft. We finished our day with a visit to the Aircraft Factory, helping to make two metal gliders.
The children were a delight to take around the museum: they were interested in everything, polite and impeccably behaved.
Well done, Year 1!
