Science Predictions and Investigations for Year 1

Year 1 is really enjoying their science topic of ‘materials.’ They were very excited to visit Mr Behan in the science lab on Friday for an investigation.

The aim of the lesson was to see if a variety of materials were waterproof or not waterproof.  The children worked with a partner and made an animal shelter using either one or more materials. They then had to pour water over the shelter to see if the (plastic!) animal stayed dry or wet!

The shelter designs were amazing. My particular favourites included twigs and leaves layered and straw, sugar paper and a shell.
