The Hidden Star!
Continuing with our Autumn theme, the children across EYFS and KS1 have been busy exploring apples, stars, and even Sir Isaac Newton!
In Forest School, Mrs Wilson shared the magical story The Star Fairy and the Tree. The children listened with fascination and were amazed when Mrs Wilson cut open an apple to reveal the hidden star inside – just like in the story! They loved using the apples to make colourful painted prints, which were added to Our Family Tree display – a wonderful way to celebrate creativity and belonging.
Back in the classroom, Reception discovered the tale of How the Apple Got its Star and were equally delighted to uncover the secret star hiding deep within each apple. Nursery enjoyed a beautiful autumn morning in the forest, collecting sweet chestnut leaves, conkers and prickly cases. They even found acorn cups and imagined the acorns “putting their hats back on!”
Meanwhile, KS1 took their apple learning further, linking it to science. They discovered how Sir Isaac Newton first thought about gravity while sitting under an apple tree. The children tested his theory by balancing along branches and throwing different objects into the air – quickly realising that what goes up, must indeed come down!
It’s been a week full of magic, discovery and wonder, showing us that sometimes the smallest things – like an apple – can hold the biggest secrets.
