Ice Experiments with Kindy
Kindy have had a busy week and it has been wonderful to welcome Isla back to Kindy!
They have been learning the sound ‘b.’ It is a great sound for playing ‘I Spy’ and the children found buttons, bears, books, basket, ball and bricks, as well as many more.
The numbers of the week have been 6,7,8,9 and 10. The children have been looking at ways of representing these numbers using their fingers and manipulatives. Clara the Crocodile is improving but still needs a great deal of help from the Kindy children!
The Book of the Week has been ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’. It has been such a fantastic book to stimulate and inspire the children. We have been dancing, singing, counting, learning about bears, their habitats and different types of bears. The theme of the book has encouraged the children to compare the size of various objects on the maths table and count spoonfuls of porridge to make small, medium and large bowls.
The Kindy children have loved being scientists as they experimented and explored ice. The children added salt and food dye to ice and were amazed at the results. They listened to the ice crackle as it reacted to the salt and they particularly loved the patterns and formations that occurred as the dye ran through the cracked ice. We were so impressed with their prior knowledge and vocabulary.
The PSHE theme is Challenges and Goals.
The children have enjoyed taking part in various challenges this term. They have walked round the room with a beanbag on their head, balanced on one leg and passed a teddy along the line going overhead and with their eyes closed!
The challenge this week was to work as part of a team. One group had to build a stable tall tower and the other group completed a jigsaw together.
There were some wonderful conversations, suggestions and risks (especially with the tower!).
Have a lovely weekend.
The Kindy Team.
