Junk Modelling in Year 1

As part of our ‘Sails, Rails, Wheels and Wings’ topic, the children had great fun this week ‘junk modelling’ a wide range of transport. Each child thought of the sort of vehicle they would like to make – ideas ranged from hot air balloons to submarines, from tanks and buses to aeroplanes.

Once they had an idea in their heads, they rooted through the ‘junk’ available to them: cardboard boxes, pipe cleaners, masking tape, cardboard tubes, lolly pop sticks… and planned their creation.

The results were incredibly diverse – it was wonderful to see the children’s imagination at work!
