Kindy and Nursery are Making the Most of the Freezing Temperatures
Happy New Year to all our Kindy and Nursery families and children!
It’s been wonderful to welcome all the children back and it was lovely to see so many happy faces eager to see their friends and explore the Nursery and Kindy environments.
In Kindy the children have been enjoying their Book of the Week, Dinosaurs love Underpants! They are learning how to recognise and draw a ‘c’ and their number of the week is 10! This week the children have started to make a super farm display and have sponged the pond and roof and even started to make some pigs for the pig pen! There have also been some brilliant fossils made from playdough and stampers.
There is also a whole new board of photos outside the Kindy classroom showing the children growing, developing and learning through play in Kindy.
In Nursery, our book of the week is A New House for Mouse. This term we are learning about animal habitats and talking about where animals live. The children have enjoyed listening to the story and learning that animals have different homes. We also played a fun game called “Match the Habitat”, and the children really enjoyed looking, pointing and guessing together. This supports their listening, attention and understanding, and helps them learn new words in a playful way.
Our number of the week is seven and our colour of the week is brown. The children have been exploring these through play, songs and everyday activities, helping to build their early maths skills and confidence.
The Kindy and Nursery children have made the most of the freezing weather conditions and enjoyed outdoor science by choosing some sea creatures and put them in tuff trays full of water. The water froze overnight leaving the sea creatures trapped in the ice. The children used a variety of different methods to break the ice with some using cold and warm water while other children used items from the tool kit to chip, saw and hammer the ice. Another great idea was to syringe water over smaller sections of the ice.
They all loved looking at the ice formation and the different shapes the ice made when it broke away into smaller chunks.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Kindy and Nursery Team
