Extracurricular DepthExploring passions, cultivating talents, developing vital life skills.

So much happens beyond the classroom at Barrow Hills. Children explore their passions, cultivate talents and develop vital life skills through 50+ clubs offered each week as part of our core provision for all pupils.

Most clubs run after school, from Monday-Friday between 3.30–4.30pm for younger pupils and 4.30–5.30pm for older pupils.  Each term, we refresh our clubs brochure so parents can choose as many sessions as they wish to suit their child’s interests. Pupil feedback and consistently high uptake show that this is a much-loved aspect of school life, giving children genuine choice and a strong sense of agency.

Recent provision has included STEM and Robotics, Art and Art Scholarship, Calligraphy, Science, Design & Technology, Chess and Board Games, Debating and Racket Club, alongside a wide range of sporting opportunities such as football, netball, cricket, swimming, cross country and mountain biking. Creative and wellbeing options include Yoga, Mindfulness, Crochet, Gardening and Crafts.

We also offer additional enrichment programmes during lunchtime and after school to further support academic success, including academic clinics, French speaking groups, maths clinics and reading clubs.

Our co-curricular provision plays a vital role in developing a broad range of personal qualities while allowing children to pursue excellence in areas they love. Pupils truly thrive beyond the classroom: each week we deliver 75 individual music lessons, over 40% of pupils sing in one of our three choirs, 100% of Prep and Upper Prep pupils represent the school in more than 185 sports fixtures each term, and children take part in nine drama productions annually, alongside over 30 enriching educational trips each year.

Beyond academics, we place great importance on the development of emotional intelligence, resilience, and teamwork though co-curricular activities. At this stage, children begin to develop the skills and habits that will shape their futures—whether it’s through collaborative projects, creative expression, or developing problem-solving abilities. Our dedicated staff takes the time to understand each child as an individual, tailoring support and encouragement to help them thrive.
