Job Description

Head of Keyboard

ASAP / January 2025

A wealth of musical opportunities for all

Our Music Department aims to enable every pupil, regardless of ability, to experience the highest quality and widest range of music possible. Our busy, thriving and well-resourced Music Department is housed in the purpose-built Countess of Munster Music School located at the heart of King Edward’s Witley. Our Chapel has a fine three manual Willis organ that is used to accompany services and for teaching.  There is also an extensive collection of instruments and a well-stocked library containing music, recordings and books.

Music is an important and respected part of school life; aiming to bring out the best of all pupils regardless of ability through an exciting curriculum. Music also flourishes outside the classroom with some twenty choirs, orchestras and specialist instrumental ensembles from Chamber Music to Rock Bands. With our strong links with the City of London pupils often sing and play in the City for important events.

The department is entering its next phase of expansion, as we strive for excellence in music across King Edward’s and our partner school Barrow Hills. Our aim is to provide a seamless and inspirational education journey from Nursery through to the Upper Sixth and this is a pivotal and exciting time to join our community.

The ideal applicant will not only be an experienced and outstanding musician but will be able to lead and inspire a team of fellow teachers. He/she is expected to take part in the wider co-curriculum and pastoral aspects of school life, (many of which take place outside normal day-school hours), focusing on inclusion which is deeply ingrained in our school and underpins all that we do. Accordingly, teachers with strong pastoral awareness are warmly welcomed.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive group of colleagues and the chance teach, motivate, and inspire diverse and interesting pupils.  We also offer job satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment, a competitive salary, pension scheme, the potential for on-site accommodation at significantly reduced rental, staff fee remission on School fees both at King Edward’s and Barrow Hills, free car parking, free use of our gym, swimming pool and sports facilities, all meals and snacks on duty and a Cycle to Work Scheme.

King Edward’s School is a co-educational boarding and day 11-18 school for some 470 pupils, around 30% of whom are full boarders. We are an HMC school and proud of our unique heritage and place among British co-educational independent schools.

Barrow Hills School is a co-educational 2-13 years prep school, offering academic success within a balanced and generous education. We have a strong ethos built on our values of compassion, curiosity and connection, and we are proud to be widely recognised as a welcoming community with a warm, family atmosphere.
