Sizzling Success in Food Tech

This week in Food Technology, the children enthusiastically took part in making their own burgers by carefully following a set recipe. They combined the ingredients by hand, learning how to mix them thoroughly, before using a burger press to shape their mixture into smashed burgers. Under close supervision, the children then cooked their burgers in a hot pan, demonstrating excellent focus and care when working with heat.

A strong emphasis was placed on food hygiene and kitchen safety throughout the session. The children learned the importance of washing their hands thoroughly, especially when handling raw meat, and developed good habits in keeping their work areas clean and organised. They were also taught how to check that their burgers were fully cooked, helping them to understand why safe cooking practices are so important.

Once cooked, the children enjoyed selecting from a range of ingredients to build their burgers, thinking about different combinations of flavours and textures. The session ended with everyone sitting together in the sunshine to enjoy the burgers they had made, celebrating their efforts and teamwork.

It was a fantastic week of practical learning, where the children developed key cooking skills, built confidence, and gained a deeper understanding of hygiene and safety in the kitchen.
