Kindy Love Reading

The Kindy children absolutely love the opportunity to choose and listen to books and they are really enjoying the ‘Book of the Week’ which currently links to our topic of The Rainforest. So far the children have spent time reading these books;

The EYFS focus of ‘The Book of the Week’ allows for several reads a week and questions to check comprehension and understanding. We also always make sure to play ‘I spy’ with all the amazing illustrations in the books! The children are also able to share prior knowledge and their own experiences which feed into our learning throughout the week.

Introduction to new vocabulary is key when reading to young children and the Kindy children have particularly loved and become familiar with the word ‘humid’ over the last few weeks.

The book of the week has been The Gecko And The Echo and the children have also learnt ‘s’ in phonics.

Meanwhile the number of the week has been ‘1’, so the focus has been on playing games with 0 and 1 to show differences between them.

The children absolutely love daily singing and pretending to be an orchestra with a variety of instruments.
