Year 8 Build Submarines
Our Year 8’s have been hard at work designing and constructing functional Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). This project has served as an excellent practical application of STEM, challenging the children to master wire soldering, calculate buoyancy, and build the structural frames from scratch.
It has been incredibly rewarding to watch them navigate the technical challenges of wiring control tethers and running live tests. Beyond the technical skills acquired, the project has been a fantastic exercise in teamwork and collaborative problem-solving. The final phase will see the ROVs deployed in the swimming pool for a series of mini-competitions, where the children will test their driving, steering, and underwater maneuvering skills.
The students’ engagement has been outstanding, and I thought you’d appreciate a glimpse into their fantastic progress.
