Year 7 & 8 Market Day
For a term, our Year 7 and Year 8 students have been channeling their inner entrepreneurs in preparation for this year’s Market Day. Working in teams, the children took on specialised corporate roles, including CEO, Financial Manager, Product Design Manager, and Marketing Manager.
The big event took place on a bustling, rainy Thursday afternoon, capping off an already momentous week for Year 8. Having just devoured a celebratory lunch to mark the receipt of their fantastic CE results, the Year 8s were simultaneously balancing the excitement of Market Day with packing their suitcases for a 3:00am departure to Costa Brava the very next morning!
Stalls, Sweets, and Smoothies
Energy was incredibly high as the children set up their storefronts. They squeezed fresh lemons for lemonade, baked waffles, displayed World Cup goodies, lined up coconuts, blended fruit smoothies, and fired up the candyfloss machine. When the Prep Department descended with their pocket money, the atmosphere was electric as they eagerly decided where to spend it. A brilliant time was had by all, and thanks to a massive team effort, the rooms even looked clean(ish) by the end of the afternoon!
Business Brains in Action
Beyond the fun, the real-world commercial skills on display were deeply impressive. Many groups went above and beyond, managing meticulous spreadsheets to track their expenditures and forecasting profits based on various sales scenarios.
After paying back their initial startup capital and floats, the teams raised a grand total of just over £650! The majority of these proceeds will be proudly donated to our Lenten Appeal charity, the Halow Project.
Well done to all of our Year 7 and 8 students for their immense creativity and hard work, and thank you to everyone behind the scenes who helped make this fantastic practical learning experience possible!
