Careers Talk with Mrs Kindersley and Mr Lewer
On Monday, Mrs Kindersley and Mr Lewer gave a presentation to Years 7 and 8 about their careers as part of our PSHE syllabus. It was useful for pupils to hear about two very different career paths.
Mrs Kindersley began as a doctor, worked in Private Equity and is now a leadership adviser. She said she values variety, teamwork and a strong focus on people in her work, as well as a continued commitment to learning. Although her roles have involved long hours, she appreciates the impact she has on individuals and organisations. She shared a few serious and light-hearted examples of medical cases, which helped to illustrate her experience.
Mr Lewer took a different route. He studied law and politics and now works as an insurance broker. After university, he worked at the Farncombe Boathouse while looking for a role that suited him. He explained that it was not easy to secure a job at first, despite having a degree and further qualifications. He eventually moved into the insurance industry and has held a number of roles in the field since then. He also gave examples of unusual items and situations that can be insured, including sports professionals insuring parts of their bodies, which surprised the pupils.
Pupils were highly engaged throughout the session, and their questions were thoughtful and pertinent.
I am really thankful to Mrs Kindersley and Mr Lewer for taking the time to talk to Year 7 and 8 and look forward to hearing from another four parents this year. Do not hesitate to contact me if you are happy to give 30 minutes of your time to talk about your career.
Merci beaucoup
