Planting Sunflowers With Year 1

As part of our ‘Plants’ topic in Science, we have been thinking about what plants need to grow and thrive. After reading the story ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle, which depicts the life cycle of a sunflower, the children were excited to be given their own ‘tiny seed’ to plant.

They carefully filled small pots with compost, planted their seeds, and covered the seeds with soil. They watered their seeds, and watched the pots for days before the first green shoots appeared. The children have been thrilled by the progress of their seedlings and are hopeful that their plants may grow as tall as the flower in ‘The Tiny Seed’ story!
