Hibernating with Reception

This week, the children have continued exploring snow, ice and winter through our book of the week, Ridiculous by Michael Coleman. The story follows a tortoise who decides to venture out in winter and inspired lots of curiosity and discussion.

We have also been learning about animals that hibernate, why they do it and what they need to survive through the winter months. The highlight of the week was a very special hands-on visit from a real tortoise. The children were fascinated, asked thoughtful questions and had the chance to study the beautiful patterns on Joey the tortoise’s shell.

A huge thank you to Mrs Dickinson for bringing Joey in and helping to make our learning about tortoises come to life. It was a wonderful experience for the children.
