Year 1 Castle Painting

Year 1 are continuing with their castle topic.

This week we have been looking at health and hygiene in castles. The children gave very thoughtful answers to questions such as ‘why did people in the middle ages not tend to live as long as we do today?’ and ‘how do historians know what sort of illnesses affected people living in castles?’

We looked at some of the ailments, illnesses and medicine available at the time; and there was some lively discussion over the toilets and where the waste from the toilets ended up!
